The civil and environmental engineering and engineering mechanics department is a microcosm of the University. The department strives to offer a comprehensive, practice-oriented program and heavily emphasizes the design aspects of our profession. We are also committed to educating the whole person, while linking leadership and service to learning and scholarship. The comprehensive undergraduate curriculum is diverse in many specialty areas of the civil engineering profession, yet rich in general education.
The civil and environmental engineering and engineering mechanics department at the University of Dayton is committed to graduating engineers capable of and willing to enhance the quality of life. Within the first several years following completion of the program, University of Dayton Bachelor of Civil Engineering graduates are expected to:
- have successful careers in civil engineering or nontraditional professions, or be completing graduate studies;
- conduct professional and personal endeavors in a responsible and ethical manner;
- accept leadership and service roles in their profession and community; and
- be committed to continual professional and personal growth through a process of lifelong learning.
In the Marianist tradition, the program is rich in practical, hands-on and real-world design opportunities. The focus of our scholarship is to advance state-of-the-art designing and build safer, more reliable and more affordable infrastructure. The department enjoys a strong association with local civil/environmental and construction engineering firms.
