The Materials Engineering Graduate Program welcomes students interested in materials and processing questions — the most deeply rooted challenges in any advanced development program today.

Our program is flexible and student centered and has a 35-year reputation for achievement. In fact, problem solving in structural materials — including metals, polymers, ceramics and composites — has earned UD’s Materials Engineering Graduate Program a national reputation for excellence.

  • Selected on-site graduate courses at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and Delphi Automotive Systems in Dayton and at the General Electric Aircraft Engine Group in Cincinnati
  • Programs leading to a master’s degree, a doctor of engineering degree and a doctor of philosophy degree

UD graduate students routinely receive financial support for conducting materials research alongside engineers at the University of Dayton Research Institute and the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Materials Directorate at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Many of these professionals serve as UD research advisers and materials engineering faculty members.

Both research facilities, coupled with the on-campus Center for Materials Diagnostics, constitute some of the best materials engineering research facilities in the world.

UD's nanoengineering, science and technology laboratory is outfitted with electron microscopes, atomic force microscopes and other specialized equipment.
