The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Dayton provides students with a dynamic and exciting atmosphere for learning, growing and developing as well-rounded engineers, scholars and professionals.

Mechanical and aerospace engineering provides an avenue for the synthesis of principles of the physical sciences, mathematics, economics and human relations. Mechanical engineers conceive, design and analyze a wide variety of products and systems. They may also direct their manufacture, distribution and operation.

Our program objectives are to enable our graduates to:

  • engage in successful careers in design, testing, manufacturing and/or research;
  • develop professionally through continuing education;
  • serve as effective team members and leaders in the technical and nontechnical environments; and
  • commit to a career and life where ethics, integrity and service are paramount.

The broad spectrum of options in the curriculum of mechanical and aerospace engineering prepares the graduate for a variety of careers and opportunities. Mechanical engineers can be employed in agovernmental organizations and a variety of industries including automotive, aerospace, biomedical, textiles, raw materials production and energy conversion.
