The University of Dayton offers a uniquely broad engineering education which includes a solid technical foundation, personal attention, breadth, commitment to the development of interpersonal, teaming, leadership and communication skills, learning through practice and outstanding placement opportunities.

A major in mechanical engineering requires 70 semester hours of mechanical engineering courses, leading to the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering. Students also take core courses in mathematics, chemistry, physics, English and engineering fundamentals.

Mechanical engineering students may choose from minors and concentrations in areas of aerospace engineering, computer systems, energy systems, engineering mechanics, industrial engineering and structures in the School of Engineering, and in areas such as music, languages and political science.

The department recently established a five-year program that permits completion of the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and the Master of Science degree in materials engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering or engineering management.

The diverse professional curriculum offered by the mechanical and aerospace engineering department is accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (TAC/ABET).
